KOES Puts On a Style Review
By Lynette Anderson
On April 21, 2008 the KOES students put on “A Style Review of Music”. The whole gym was packed with many loyal supporters of the music program.
The evening began with the 5th grade band playing. Tunes included “The Banana Boat Song”, “School Spirit”, and “B B Does Latin Rock”. Next the sixth grade band played “The Can-Can”, “Rock.com”, and their LaCrosse festival piece, “Musette”. The sixth grade band was also presented their awards from the LaCrosse Music Festival.
After the bands, the style review began with fashion models showing rock, barbershop, jazz, and opera styles while the 5th and 6th graders sang “Music Goes With Anything”.
Styles of music represented throughout the evening were country, rock, Hawaiian, spiritual, jazz, and rock-a-billy swing. Each song style was introduced by a student announcer. Some well-known songs presented were “Hey, Good Lookin’” and “Splish Splash”. Other tunes included “Humuhumunukunukyapua’a (Hawaii’s state fish)”, “Promenade Together”, and the “Moo Tubes”.
The big stage was filled with Hula dancers, a 50’s girl, a train engineer, and a jazz band. However, when Talyn Sexton, as Elvis, came on stage the audience broke out in cheers. He was accompanied by Kindergarten, first, and second grades singing “Twang that Thang”.
The evening ended with the entire group of students singing “Bright Happy Day.”

6th grade band performs their contest piece at the KOES Spring Music Program.

Second and third graders sing and dance to “Splish Splash.”

Ross Frame, Jennie McReynolds, Zachary Crockett and Phillip Werth open the KOES Music Style Review with dramatized “Jazz.”
