The "I Care" Scholarship

This scholarship was designed for the KHS graduating senior who plans to enroll in post-secondary training; who has 3.2 or higher GPA cumulative at the high school level; whose character continues to demonstrate a “caring” concern for self and for other individuals; whose high school record indicates “sound” attendance patterns; whose involvement in the high school and the community program has consistently been dependable, reliable, wholesome, and supportive.
Prospective applicants are to:
1. Complete the cover application form and submit a current transcript to the chairperson of the committee.
2. Submit a 500-word essay in typed form explaining the importance of caring in the individual’s life—what makes the spirit important, how the individual not only now but also in the future hopes to make the spirit of caring evident.
3. Submit 2 letters of character reference, one coming from a community source (not family) and one coming from a member of the current high school staff.
The admission of any part of the above forfeits the application of the candidate.
The value of the scholarship is $500 with $250 payable upon proof of enrollment for the fall semester classes; $250 payable upon proof of enrollment for the spring semester classes providing that the student has secured at least a 3.2 GPA for the first semester’s program. Funds are handled by Mrs. Kim VanNahmen, 414 South Main, Offerle, Kansas 67563 under the auspices of the Offerle National Bank, Offerle. The scholarship may be renewable upon request to the chairman of the funds.
All applications and letters as well as support materials are due by April 1. The announcement of the recipient is to be made by May 1. All inquiries should be directed to Mrs. Kim VanNahmen, 414 South Main, Offerle, Kansas 67563.
