National Honor Society
The selection process for consideration for membership in the Kinsley-Offerle N.H.S. is as per requirements set forth in the "N.H.S. Handbook". A synopsis of the process is as follows:
Selection is based upon the exhibition of outstanding characteristics demonstrated by a sophomore, junior, or senior in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The only objective criteria of the four is the area of scholarship -- a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4 point scale. Students are advised of when the selection process commences and the ending dates through announcements, the web page, and a newsletter sent home to parents. They are requested to complete a "potential membership resume" listing their outstanding accomplishments in character, leadership, and service during their high school years and to secure signatures to document these accomplishments. The students are strongly encouraged to present these in word document form or typewritten.
The "resumes" are submitted to the Faculty council composed of five faculty members appointed by the principal and rotated approximately every two yeas. These Council members are representative of instructional grade levels and academic areas. The "resumes" are read and discussed by the Council in a group process in terms of outstanding accomplishments. The Council then votes on the possible selection of each student with induction requiring three favorable votes from the five members. The faculty advisor cannot be a voting member and does not comment on the merits of any applicant.
Applications for academically eligible students will be available on Friday, Sept 12. The deadline for the return of the completed application is Friday, Sept.26. the Induction Ceremony for selected students will be Tuesday, Nov. 4.
